What it is like to be married
This conversation neatly sums up what it is like to have been married for a while.
1: Happy New Year! 2: Happy New Year! 1: … huh?

Emptyage: Generation X Doesn't Want to Hear It →
Earlier generations have weathered recessions, of course; this stall we’re in has the look of something nastier. Social Security and Medicare are going to be diminished, at best. Hours worked are up even as hiring staggers along: Blood from a stone looks to be the normal order of things “going…

Myth #1 – Introverts don’t like to talk. This is not true. Introverts just don’t talk unless they have something to say. They hate small talk. Get an introvert talking about something they are interested in, and they won’t shut up for days.
Myth #2 – Introverts are shy. Shyness has nothing to…
Myth #11 - Introverts want you to just fuck off. Yeah, ok, that’s not really...

So what.
Occasionally find these lyrics particularly comforting:
They ask me why I’m hateful, why I’m bad. They tell me I got things they never had. They tell me go to church and see the light. Cos the good lord’s always right.
So what, so what. So what if Jesus died on the cross. So what about the fucker, I don’t give a toss. So what if the master walked on the water. I...

Song triggers
Inspired by a question asked by @drewmccormack on Twitter, I started thinking about songs that instantly remind me of my parents or events strongly linked to my parents.
The song Shining Star by The Manhattans always reminds me of my mother. This is from a period after my parents were divorced, so there’s no link to my father.
During the summer of 1979, we took our one and only family...
Ten Sexy Ladies: That Broken Toilet →
tensexyladies:
Boy what a time I had in the office bathroom! Get this: I go into one of the stalls and see there is still pee in the bowl. Wait there’s more. I briefly consider moving to the next stall but that’d be a middle stall, and who wants a middle stall. Nobody is who. So I flush the toilet and it gets…

meaningfulmentality:
Ritual isn’t about doing a routine mindlessly. It’s a way of building something good into your life, so that you don’t forget what’s important. Done mindfully, a ritual can remind you to be conscious. Done mindlessly, a ritual is meaningless.
I think I need to make a ritual of building the ritual. Keep having to learn this over and over.

Do what you can. Do it now.
Buddhism quote for @Neo_Jellyfish : “Life does not give us time to prepare all things before taking action. We must take action as best we can, as we need to, and learn all else we need while we are ourselves in action. Don’t put off doing what you can and you know is important just because you do not know the unknowable.”

On Finding and Working with Software Engineers
90wpm:
The Portuguese, besides having some fantastic idioms, have an interesting cultural quirk that makes navigating their country as a foreigner particularly difficult. They will always, without fail, respond to your questions with a literal answer, and will never actually tell you what you actually want to know. Ask a man if that door over there leads to the fire escape, and if it does not,...

SeoulBrother: "Nigger" →
seoulbrother:
It’s that time of year again where we discuss the word “nigger.” Seems like it was just yesterday when Oprah popularized the daytime-TV-safe “n-word”—I’m surprised that it didn’t make Word of the Year, but then again, I’m not. No matter how much you try to sugarcoat it, “nigger” makes people…

Links to Chinese music
I was recently asked by a friend at work for some recommendations on pop music from China. I’m not by any means, up on the latest, and my taste tends to run towards the alt/punk side of the spectrum.
In general, I don’t feel it’s easy to find good new artists. Part of this has to do with the fact that most music in China is downloaded for free, making cultivated lists more...

Foxes
As I was leaving work today I saw a family of foxes playing around in one corner of the parking lot. We’ve seen the mother poking around once or twice, but this is the first time that I have seen pups as well.
Apologize that they are a bit small in the video, but I was afraid of scaring them off by getting too close (and all I had was my iphone.)
Google voice message
Hi. This is a member of it, but they’re going to the Dennis for a long time my front tooth tap completely pop off just a few minutes. A cold until it’s a sunday and I’m hoping you can see someone Monday and in the interim, if it’s okay to just use super glue works very quickly to try to stick it back on because otherwise it looks like really weird. Okay, it’s, but...

Simple Objective-C
The value of Aaron Hillegass’ (@aaronhillegass) canonical Cocoa Programming book cannot be understated. I guess that’s why it’s canonical. He is so good at explaining things, it’s like you’re just having a chat with your buddy about something you know well. Facts just sink in and techniques become your own.
Obviously, facts don’t remain in the brain unless you...

Stupid Core Animation Jiggle
Here’s a super simple Core Animation ‘jiggle’ that I’m using in my project. I think this is about as basic as it gets:
CABasicAnimation* animation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@”transform.rotation.z”]; [animation setFromValue: DegreesToNumber(-7.5)]; [animation setToValue: DegreesToNumber(7.5)]; [animation setDuration: 0.07]; [animation...

Garden of hate.
From the esteemed Margo Howard @Margoandhow on Twitter:
James Dobson’s associate, whose mission is to turn gay people straight, was caught in Europe with a young stud from “rentboy.com.”
Wonder what part of the family he was focusing on? I suppose it’s cliché that these guys are absurd hypocrites, but events like these never fail to elicit alternating waves of anger...

Hi there. I had an interesting comedy experience last night that I wanted to share with America and other people who can speak/read English. First I will say that I do a lot of comedy all over the place and have performed in a variety of locations and under a variety of circumstances, both wonderful and shitty. That is normal if you do comedy and are not very famous. You do a show in...

Xcode shits the bed
Xcode occasionally shits the bed after I save the file I’m working on. It will either move the cursor down into the middle of nowhere, or if I’m in the PCH file, it will just not display a section of the file.
Maybe related to PCH updating?

I find that eating vegetarian is super easy. It doesn’t really take effort or getting used to. The immediate benefit is not feeling bloated or wiped out after eating. Lately however, even dairy and eggs seem bloating and like way too much food.
I have not previously considered eating vegan. It just seemed extreme or unnecessary. I have started thinking about it lately however, after...
Notes on Cocoa: I do need a tumblr client for iPad →
Totally clueless.
The web interface is unusable, it is too hard to scroll the text editing area if you are editing a long text. The line breaks will be missing if you use email post until you set your tumblr blog to use markdown, but, if you do so, it will be quite terrible if you try to reblog…

Unit calibration
If we’re going to use heartbeat as a unit of time, then we need to calibrate with thoughts per heartbeat. Otherwise, I don’t know if doing something in a heartbeat is astounding or not.
For example, changing my mind in a heartbeat. Meh. I do that all the time.
“I’d hit that in a heartbeat.” Possibly believable, but maybe something you want to keep to yourself.
